In my last post, I talked about popular smoking cessation tools. Today, I'd like to stay on the topic of health and talk about an important type of fat that we all need more of: Omega 3 fatty acids.
You've probably heard by now all the benefits of getting fish oil (AKA Omega 3 fatty acids), but the fact is that there are actually quite a few ways you can get these kind of fats, and eating fish is just one of those ways. Here are some top ways to get Omega 3 fatty acids:
1. Beans and Nuts.
Everyone knows that fish contain Omega 3s, but did you know that many nuts and beans contain them as well? Soybeans, for example, contain quite a bit of Omega 3s, and so do Walnuts. The good news is that you don't need to eat a lot of them to get a health dose of Omega 3s. Note that the type of Omega 3 in nuts and beans is called ALA, which is slightly different from the type of Omega 3 you'll find in fish (called DHA and EPA). Nevertheless, this type of Omega 3 is still very healthy.
2. Flaxseed Oil
Some people tax flaxseed oil as a supplement, but you can also add it to some of the foods you eat. Note that the healthy oils tend to be destroyed when you heat flaxseed oil, so you should use it raw.
3. Fatty Fish
Most health experts agree that by far, the best way to get your Omega 3s is by eating fish. But don't make the mistake of thinking any fish will do. The amount of Omega 3 you'll find in fish varies greatly by the type of fish you eat. You'll also want to make sure the fish you eat is not high in mercury. One site you can use to check mercury levels is the FDA website. Canned salmon is one of the best choices, but herring, oysters, and sardines also have very high levels of Omega 3.
4. Fish Oil Capsules
If you simply do not want to eat fish, taking fish oil capsules can be helpful. The caveat, however, is to take high quality supplements from well respected online vitamin stores such as Pureformulas. Referral Business Builders has coupons for Pureformulas that you can use to ensure that you get the best bargain possible.
Ideally, you should try to add more fish to your diet, but as long as you use one of the methods above to raise the amount of Omega 3s you are getting, your overall health should improve. I therefore encourage you to start taking more Omega 3s as soon as possible.
